Lord of the Films Review

There’s a new review of The Lord of the Films at amazon. Constance G. J. Wagner gives the book five stars and says:

This book is a hoot! And so incredibly comprehensive that even though I have seen the extended versions of all three LOTR films dozens of times over the years, this author pointed out things that were new to me.

Written in fluid and often funny prose, THE LORD OF THE FILMS holds your attention from first page to last page and lets you wallow in information that only a true fan could love — such as the fact that the “Citizens of Minas Tirith” are included in the long list of credits at the end of the third film and if you look fast, you might catch a glimpse of Arwen: Warrior Princess escaping the cutting room floor to still be at the battle of Helm’s Deep!

LORD OF THE FILMS is a great revel of a read. You’ll love it!

Thanks, Constance!

LOTR Chapter by Chapter: Long Expected Party

Thursday, October 20, 2011 17:38

This is a continuation of a series where I look at The Lord of the Rings one chapter at a time, and also look at the corresponding parts of the Jackson, Bakshi, and Rankin/Bass films. Some of this will be written by me (J.W.) and some by Drew L. So with that introduction out of the way, here we go:

The Fellowship of the Ring Book 1, Chapter 1: The Long Expected Party

Chapter Synopsis:

Sixty years have passed since Bilbo Baggins, the hero and title character of The Hobbit, returned from his journey. He is well-known by many, both for his legendary wealth as well as for the fact that age does not seem to affect him.

Today I’m starting a periodic feature where I look at The Lord of the Rings one chapter at a time, and also look at the corresponding parts of the Jackson, Bakshi, and Rankin/Bass films. Some of this will be written by me (J.W.) and some by Drew L. So with that introduction out of the way, here we go:

Brewers Win!

Friday, October 7, 2011 20:44

The Milwaukee Brewers just defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the playoff series. Keely and I went to three Brewers’ games this year, including one where the Brewers played the D-backs. To have the series come down the last game, have that go into extra innings, and then hear Bob Uecker call the winning run which gave the Brewers their first playoff series win since 1982… well it was pretty special!
